Sam Winzar Q&A re: SA VC
Today, a quick Q&A with Sam Winzar, DoP of the new Sugar Army clip for the song ‘Tongues In Cheeks’. It looks pretty damn hot, but don’t take BRAINS?’s'z word for it, have a look………
BRAINS?: What Did You Shoot On?
We shot of the RED One camera. Using both the RED 18-50mm lens plus LensBaby 3G PL with a custom cut aperture for a bit the ‘freakout’ footage. The film was edited in Final Cut Pro with special effects done in Adobe After Effects. Colour grading was completed in Apple Color.
Who Did What?
Jamie Sher (Sugar Army Drummer) came up with the concept and Directed the Clip.
Dominic Pearce (from VisOnline/Radio Dingbat) was Co-Director/First AD/Producer
Lauren Brunswick and John Mcliver (Cut & Paste) also helped Co-Produce with Dom
Myself (Sam Winzar) was the Director of Photography and Colourist.
My camera assistant was Jeremy Stewart (who’s a great budding DOP in his own right).
Special Effects were done by the amazingly talented Robert Woods
Editing was done by Glen Adams and Dominic Pearce
Central TAFE students Luis, Aaron & David (I’ve forgotten the last names and that’s really bad) made up our Grips/Lights/Electric department.
Our actor was the amazingly great sport known as Alfredo Mellabello
Other great people helped out who names I’ve probably forgotten.
Any Dramas?
Well… let’s just say that all that food didn’t exactly smell too great after spending two days under hot studio lights. To make matters worse, due to our near zero budget we didn’t have the greatest catering for cast & crew on set so that made watching all that good food go to waste even harder.
We also had a bit of a comical miscommunication around our chair prop. The chair our victim was supposed to be strapped to was a dentists chair, as in the one you sit in when you go to the dentists. John managed to get in contact with someone who had one really easily. The day before the shoot he went to pick it up… it was actually one of those little chairs on wheels that the dentist sits on as he wheels around doing sticking things in your mouth. The chair used is actually Jamie’s personal desk chair.
