Kane George Jason interview

Kane George Jason is a director/producer and the founder of Contempovision Films. Judging by the number of posts on the FTI boards they have quite a heavy slate. He also started the Perth Filmmakers Directory (pfd.cvfilms.net) which is worth a check for those looking for cast and crew . Brains? asked him about his work.

My name is Kane George Jason and I started my company, Contempovision Films, in 2004 as a means to produce and distribute film and television projects. Independently, CV Films has produced over 15 projects thus far, with each venture gaining in production value and total running time which is building towards our long term aim; to produce high quality feature films and TV series. For any and all things Contempovision Films, visit our site at: www.cvfilms.net

I myself have been involved with over 25 projects from shorts, series and music videos, part Contempovision Films/part other independent productions by various filmmakers from our great little hideaway; Perth, Western Australia. I have primarily been either director &/or producer, but have also done small jobs like camera assistant or gaffer.

Most of our recent productions haven’t hit the internet yet because they’re doing the festival circuit, but there is a trailer for the DVD we released which includes all the projects produced from 2004-2007, which can be found here: www.cvfilms.net/store.html

As for the recent project, Critical Killing, no footage is available at the moment, although we have set a release date of 12/12/09 so there should be numerous screening dates where people interested in seeing it can do just that. One screening will be at the Movies By Burswood outdoor cinema, where all proceeds go to charity. You also get to see a feature film coupled with the short, so that’s putting your money to good use and cause!

I started the website Perth Filmmakers Directory (pfd.cvfilms.net) in 2005; to connect the cast and crew to the productions needing them. But it seems that everyone is trying to make own their website and do similar things, which just keeps everyone dilated. We really just need one dedicated site/body that everyone goes to which would make it much more efficient.

BRAINS?: Your ‘Dancing with the Pros’ short was featured by America’s ABC news; how did that happen?

Dancing With The Pros was one of the first shorts I did back in 2005, and it shows. But to its credit, it does have a certain humour, genre and theme to get the attention of video watchers on the worldwide web. That’s how it was screened on American television, because it got a good following. ABC News contacted me to get permission to use it in a story about MTV’s 25th Anniversary; go figure! News stations are vultures for anything that will get them ratings, and if there’s a video on the web that has captured an internet audience, they’ll try and use it for their program for the same reason. I guess that’s the nature of the industry we’re in!

Also, a sequel to DWTP is also in the works; five years after Yuri Ka first taught the world how to dance. A lot has changed in those years, and Yuri isn’t in the same place in life he once was and he struggles to cope with this. Dancing With The Pros 2 will be a 10 minute film due to begin production early next year, with an estimated release date for mid 2010.
