Flicktease – Perth’s CTV film show

While community TV fights it out with government to try and secure digital broadcasts, Brains? chased up some people with experience working with Perth’s CTV to see what interested creators can expect if K-Rudd comes through with the goods. Gavin is a maker, and one of the hosts of the Flicktease program, a movie news and review show. They hope to get back on air in September when CTV relaunches. You can find them here or on YouTube [search;flicktease]

BRAINS?: Could you tell us what it took to get the show up and running?

Filmed our own pilot and sent it to 31/CTV. They kindly offered us studio space and CTV volunteers to film.

We learnt how to edit the show ourselves. We initially would film once a week but later on did a fortnightly shoot and filmed two shows back to back. Filming would take about 2 hours. We would use about 3 volunteers (cameras, floor managers) from CTV/Access 31 and some friends to help out.

Editing 6 hours a show???? (Depending on content)

Audio was our biggest downfall. Best to get some advice about how best to
avoid sounding “tinny” etc…

My advice is to be sure about what type of show you are putting together.
CTV will probably charge you to hire equipment. Try to avoid spending too
much money as you could go under.

Passion for the product and the ability to devote time to it are the two
most important factors IMHO.
